Pumpkin All Dressed up in Designer Series Paper

I saw this idea in a magazine last year but forgot about it because it was after Thanksgiving. As I was making Halloween cards and 3-D projects I thought of it.  I really like how it turned out.

I used a real pumpkin but using a pumpkin you buy at the local craft store would be great because you could bring it out year after year. 

What you need to make this project

Pumpkin

Designer Series Paper( I used 4 sheets of Comfort Cafe)

Card Stock for the leaves; I used Cherry Clobber (optional)
Brushed Gold Card Stock (trendles) 

Mod Podge  

Disposable Gloves

Sponge Brush

Protective covering for your work space (I used the brown paper that comes in out packages from Stampin' Up!)

Paper Plate to set your pumpkin on.

I started out washing the pumpkin and letting it dry

I tore different width of designer series paper; when you tear the paper turn it over and tear on the opposite side you want to show on your pumpkin so there won't be any white edges showing.

Apply glue to a 2"-4" width space on the pumpkin; apply glue to a piece of designer series paper and place the paper strip on the pumpkin. Paint more glue on the paper. smooth out any bubbles. Continue this until the pumpkin is completely covered. Check you work...I had to go over some strips again with some glue and smooth the strips out with my fingers.

Let dry overnight...Cut out leaves with Big Shot Die Cutting Machine, Hot glue to top of pumpkin.

I made three curly trendels  for my pumpkin(optional)   

Before gluing the leaves on the pumpkin, I wadded them up, used Early Espresso ink on a Dauber and added the color around the edges of each leaf and rubbed ink on the wrinkles. I spritzed each leaf

with  a solution I made with Champagne Mist Paint and Rubbing Alcohol.
 It took me about 1 1/2 hours because I had two of our granddaughters covering pumpkins too. We had a fun night.
When we were at the half way mark, we went out for pizza.

Halloween Idea for Wood Stamp Blocks

Good Morning!

It's getting closer to Halloween and I have been busy making Halloween cards and more Halloween 3-D projects.

Today I want to show you what I did for Halloween using some of the left over wood blocks from my stamps.

  Aren't these the cutest? I love them! It's a family of Pumpkin Block Heads..... The middle pumpkin is looking sad because she isn't sure people on the East Coast will be safe for Halloween.

If you follow my blog you have seen other things I have made using the left over wooden blocks. So far this idea is my favorite.

Tip:

The Ink Refill is very dark, apply small amount on your brush until you see how much ink you will need to cover the block. I only had to apply one coat. Don't forget to wear gloves.

What you need to make this project

Wooden Blocks

Tangerine Tango Classic Stampin' Ink Refill

Sponge Bursh

Rubber Gloves

Paper to cover your work space

Basic Black, Certainly Celery card stock

Multipurpose Liquid Glue 

Punches I used:

Merry Minis Punch Pack ornament (smallest block nose)

Modern Label (stems on the two smaller blocks)

Cupcake Builder (mouth on the two larger blocks)

1" Square Punch (cut to size for the two larger blocks)

Small Oval (eyes on the largest block

Mitten Builder Punch (eyes for the smallest block)

Bat Punch (for the mouth of the smallest block)  

Free cut stem for the larges block 

I painted the blocks on all four sides and let dry...about 30 minutes. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, I applied the punched out eyes, nose, mouth and stem on each block. 

This project would be great for children 10 and up. The painting of the blocks is a little messy for younger children.

Metal leaf card

Here is my card for a card swap from a stamping group I belong to.  I'm in love with the metal sheets and wanted to start using them in my projects. For this card I used Gold and Orange metal sheets, Silver Glimmer Paper and Early Espresso Core'dinations Card Stock. On the sliver leaf, using a Stampin' Sponge I applied Early Espresso ink to tone down the sparkle effect a little. I also used the Early Espresso Ink on the Very Vanilla Framelit.

After cutting them out using the Autumn Accents Bigz Die and the Big Shot Die Cut Machine, I ran them through the Vintage Wallpaper Folder. On the acorn, I used Stampin' Sanding System to create an antiqued look.

For the banner I used more gold metal sheet and ran the sheet through the Big Shot using the Bitty Banners Framelits.

The sentiment came from Teeny Tiny Whises Set. The Word Window and Modern Label punches work perfect for this.

To finish off the look, I chose 3/8" Very Vanilla  Taffeta Ribbon. I used my glue gun and attached a Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons topped with a Large Pearl from the Basic Jewels.

The card base is Early Espresso and the second layer is Brushed Gold card stock. 

I hope the gals in the card swap will like my card. I can't wait to see what everyone else did.

Beautiful Season

As soon as I saw this set, I feel in love with it. The little bird is so sweet setting on a branch of holly. The set has two sentiments and a "gift for you" tag you can punch out with the Curly Label Punch.  For this card I stamped just the bird and holly image.

Before I applied the stamped bird image to the Gumball Green, and after I ran the card stock through the Big Shot using the Lacy Brocade, I used a sponge with Whisper White and rubbed  the ink in circles all over the card stock. It might not show here but the Gumball Green card stock  looks like velvet. A very pretty look, especially for Christmas when we use more glitz and glitter.

Holiday Frame Card meets Ornament Punch Card

Today I have a couple of card from a class I had in September. We used the Ornament Punch for one and the new Holiday Frame in the Holiday Catalog for the other.

This was a fun card to make. I use Cherry Clobber, and Whisper White card stock, Be of Good Cherry designer series paper, Gumball Green Stampin' Pad, Ornament Punch, Cherry Clobber Baker's Twine and two Rhinestone Jewels; colored red with a Sharpie marker, SNAIL adhesive, and Glue Dots to attach the Baker's Twine.

For this card I chose the Holiday Frame from the Holiday catalog. After cutting the frame out with the Big Shot, I cut around the wreath. I used Whisper White, Gumball Green and Cherry Clobber card stock, Joyous Celebrations stamp set also from the Holiday catalog, Owl Builder punch for the holly berries, Large Oval Punch, Rose Red 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon, the uni-ball Signo Gel Pen to highlight the Holly berries, SNAIL and Stampin' Dimensionals.

Winter Memories Times Three

What an unusual Title...

Do you know what this means? Have you guessed yet?

It's the new Winter Memories stamp set in the Holiday Catalog.

This set has three completely different stamps showing winter memories that I cherish from my childhood. 

Ice skates, children building a snowman and an old fashion sled just like the one I used when my dad took my brothers and me sledding each Christmas break.  As long as it was cold enough to have ice, I would ice skate almost every day. I wasn't very good at skating but I had so much fun. As a teenager, some times I was the only one at the outdoor rink. I would skate and skate until I was so cold I couldn't stand it any longer and head home for some hot chocolate my mother would make for me.

 When I was growing up in the 1950's and 1960's what a difference life was for little children. As I look back it seems like yesterday but then again, it's been a lifetime. I'm a grandmother of 7 now. But you know....When the snow flies I can go right back to those days of making snowmen, skating and sledding. Have you seen the annual Christmas movie The Christmas Story? That movie shows what life was like for many of us who are grandparents now.

My mom would always have a spare carrot, a hat and scarf for our snowman. We burned coal for heating the house, so we had an ample supply of "real" coal for his eyes and mouth. I can almost smell the clean scent of the first snow. It seemed like during winter season the snow was  perfect  just one time to make the best snowman ever.

 You don't see many sleds like this one anymore. Most sledding is done on plastic disks, toboggans or snow boarding.

We had the coolest park in Sturgis, Michigan where I grew up. I couldn't wait to get to the park. I would jump out of the car and jump up and down with excitement while my dad got my sled out of the trunk. I would do a belly flop on my sled as I ran toward the point where the hill started downward.

 Oh, what fun! Once at the bottom, up I would climb up the hill  to slide down  all over again. I never got tired or had enough sledding. My dad was a good sport and we would spend a couple of hours at the park.  He brought hot chocolate in a big Thermos and once back in the car we held the cups of warm liquid and warmed our hands as the chocolate warmed our tummy's. No wonder I love this set so...
